It happened recently in New London, Wisconsin. A school bus driver was charged with sexually assaulting the kids on his bus. He had slipped through the cracks because he was hired before the company for whom he worked was expected to perform background checks on all drivers.

With all the media hubbub surrounding the bad habits and poor choices of some NBA players, it might come as a surprise that the NBA actually has a very strict background screening process in place. But the truth of the matter is that their background checks weed out the “bad apples” in no time flat.

A recent incident has brought questions to the table in terms of the U.S. Government’s background checking policy for census workers. In Indianapolis, Indiana, a census worker allegedly raped a young woman after essentially “casing” the home to determine when the woman would be alone.

Summer camp. It’s a tradition for many kids, one they look forward to for most of the year (especially that seemingly-endless last month of school!) Parents, too, get excited about the annual event. But what they might not realize is that not all summer camps have a policy of background screening the people they hire (or who operate as volunteers).
