Drug Testing in High Schools — The Wave of the Future?

This news item just came across the wire…

A school board in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, recently voted to start random drug testing of students.

According to the piece:

“Lampeter-Strasburg High School students in extracurricular activities this fall will be subject to random drug testing.

The L-S school board, in a 6-2 vote Monday night, approved new drug policies for the district, including random drug testing for students in extracurricular activities or who drive to school.”

It’s an interesting move for the school to make and, although it caused some controversy, was popular among most parents and district residents.

What is your feeling on this decision?  Is it the wave of the future?
