Milwaukee County Changes Employment by Resolution
- Banned the criminal record box
Milwaukee County removed the criminal history box from its employment and job applications. The resolution that passed on October 7th of 2011 calls for the Milwaukee County Director of Intergovernmental Relations to send word to the Wisconsin Governor’s Office as well as the state’s legislature suggesting that the state enact the same reforms that Milwaukee County has and to further promote legislation that would ban-the-box for all public and private employers in the state of Wisconsin.

Dane County, WI
- Banned the criminal record box
Dane County Executive Joe Parisi exhibited solidarity with the concept of banning-the-box when approached by Madison Organizing in Strength, Equity and Solidarity (MOSES) with the idea of not asking applicants for jobs with the county about their criminal history. Parisi, who had previously been a state legislator in 2009, had sponsored a bill during his tenure in the Wisconsin legislature to ban-the-box at the state level. Parisi asserted that, “We don’t have to condone what they did to get in trouble, but I, personally, want people who’ve served their debt to society to get back into the workforce.”
