On January 10, 2014, the City of New Orleans Chief Administrative Office released a policy memorandum announcing the City’s new Policy for Review of Employment Candidates’ Criminal History (Ban the Box). Wishing to safely remove barriers that impede otherwise qualified individuals from obtaining employment with the City, New Orleans will no longer request criminal history
information from job applicants until after they have been interviewed and found to be otherwise qualified for the position. In addition, the applicant will receive a copy of his or her background
check and has an opportunity to comment on the record prior to a final employment decision
